Dried berries of Cratageus laevigata – the Midland hawthorn or mayflower, a wonderful tree near our henhouse that puts out its bright red fruit in summer for all manner of birds.

Thinking I might grow a few more, I gathered these and left them in the kitchen in this Japanese bowl, where they’ve taken on a lovely silvered bloom in the past few months.
